Postdoctoral Researcher, Finance

We are now inviting applications for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in Finance. The position is for a fixed term with a starting date at the beginning of September 2024 or as agreed upon and ending in December 2025. The location of the position is Vaasa, Finland. 

Your Role

You will be working as a Postdoctoral Researcher on the “Sustainable Development and Corporate Governance of Financial Institutions” project within the OP Research Foundation’s Research Group on Financial Institutions. The broad theme of the project is to examine the role of corporate governance mechanisms in influencing banks’ social and environmental performance, environmental disclosure, and the implementation of sustainable development initiatives. The research project is led by Professor Sami Vähämaa.

The tasks of the Postdoctoral Researcher include: 

  • Conducting research related to financial institutions and sustainable development 
  • Preparing research proposals for national and international funding calls
  • Administrative tasks related to project management

The position is research-oriented and does not have any teaching load. The position is located in the School of Accounting and Finance of the University of Vaasa. The School of Accounting and Finance is one of Finland’s largest educational units in its field and internationally known for its high-quality research activities. The School includes four disciplines: accounting, finance, business law and economics. The School’s main focus areas of research are (1) Financial Markets, Instruments, and Institutions, (2) Financial Analysis of Firm policies and Outcomes, (3) Governance and Compliance, (4) Responsibility and Sustainability, and (5) Risk Measurement and Management. Over recent years, the School’s faculty members have published numerous articles in highly-regarded finance, accounting, and business journals.

Work may include other tasks to be agreed upon separately. The annual working time is 1612 hours based on the general collective agreement for universities. A more detailed task description is agreed upon in the Annual Work Plan.

Requirements

A person selected for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher is required to have a doctoral degree in Finance, and the ability to conduct independently high-level scientific research on the specified area. You are ready to share your knowledge with your colleagues and develop yourself as a researcher.

Excellent analytical skills, writing skills, and communication skills are highly advantageous for your candidature. The ideal candidate would have prior publications in highly-regarded peer-reviewed journals related to the theme of the research project.

The salary is based on both the job requirement and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System (YPJ). The salary for a Postdoctoral Researcher is based on demand level 5 (approximately 3400-3800 euros/month based on the applicant’s experience and performance).
