Laboratory Engineer, automation and control engineering (Energy Technology)

This is a permanent position with a starting date in June 2024 or as agreed. The position is located in the School of Technology and Innovation.  

Your role

You will be working as a laboratory engineer (automation and control specialization). Your role is to plan and perform changes to automation and control system of the engines and related auxiliaries in University of Vaasa’s Laboratories (EnergyLab). You will participate in developing the laboratory by planning new test bed automation functions and related installations. The scope of duties includes but is not limited to: 

  • develop, test, and implement new and existing test bed automation 
  • installing and calibrating sensors and actuators
  • regular system testing, maintenance, and repair tasks

In addition, to succeed in this role it is beneficial to have good problem-solving skills and desire to learn new things. 

You will be working as part of a team of professional laboratory engineers working in a thriving research environment utilizing state of the art equipment.

Requirements

The candidate should have practical knowledge / experience about PLC based automation systems. Knowledge regarding 4-stroke internal combustion engines and their auxiliary systems control is seen as a clear advantage for the candidate.

Successful applicants will have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in the related field of science, such as automation or control engineering.

We hope the candidate is able to work efficiently both independently and as part of the team. The working languages are English and Finnish so fluent written and spoken English or Finnish language skills are needed in the position.  Your likelihood of selection for this position will be higher if you have some of the following attributes:

  • good knowledge in control and measurement systems
  • experience in working in laboratory environment
  • experience in PLC programming
  • experience in AutoCAD design
  • knowledge of programming
  • knowledge of electrical sensors and actuators, as well as their implementation

The position has a six (6) month’s trial-period.

Salary

The salary will be based on the Finnish University Salary System. The monthly salary is based on job demand level 8-9 (2787-3213€). An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance.
