Research Assistant, Platform of Digital Economy

Digital Economy at the University of Vaasa is a phenomenon-based, multidisciplinary open research platform, which focuses on research of the digital transformation in industry and society. It has researchers from all Schools of our university and conducts research projects on the latest trends in digitalisation, the state of the art technologies and data economy. To name a few - Artificial intelligence and machine learning in industry and decision making; Smart industry and robotized logistics, manufacturing and transport; Resilient IoT and connectivity (5G and beyond); Sustainable automation; Situational awareness; Data analytics; FinTech; Big Data.

The Platform of Digital Economy is now inviting applications for the position of Research Assistant in this first instance for a fixed term of 1 year. The start date is 1.2.2021, but can be negotiated. 

If you are interested in any of the latest digitalisation trends and would like to start working full or part-time on some of the topics mentioned below, you are welcome to apply and be part of a very diverse team of experts and professionals in the digitalisation field in various projects:

  • Interest or expertise in image processing or computer vision 
  • Interest or expertise in technologies for autonomous forestry, especially optical measurements. Tasks include completing a review of available solutions for situational awareness. 
  • Interest or expertise on urban sustainability, available technologies and related data analytics
  • Interest or expertise in smart logistics and related applications
  • Experience in wireless systems, to be applied in applications of 5G and beyond
  • Interest in utilizing space based data, including Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)
  • Interest or expertise in automation, machine learning, and data-analytics skills for monitoring and controlling complex systems, including power and energy networks and smart factories
  • Experience and interest in green and sustainable digital innovation

Your role

As a Research Assistant you have good communication and interpersonal skills. You have an active and self-driven approach as well as genuine interest in scientific research and societal development.

The salary is based on the job demand level 1  in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance.
